The Puzzle of Job Applications

As I am reaching the sunset months of my degree, I am faced with the horrific task of trying to find myself an interesting job. This, of course, is made much all the worst by the suicidal tenancies of bankers and the economy as a whole. Anyway, better put that aside, as it isn't really the main grumble I am wishing to present.

What is my grumble then? Well at the risk of sounding like a politician I am going to answer that one with another question! What do employers really want? It's a really common question, which I have discovered has a surprising answer.

I have spent three years of my life (and countless thousands of pounds) studying for a degree. I have undertaken work experience during my holidays, and even attempted writing a kick arse CV. But what do they really, really really want? The answer is of course: the ability to complete visual logic puzzles quickly, whilst bathed in copious amounts of stress.

So a university education, employment experience, personality and all the other skills I have developed come second in importance. It's not even as though this skill is weighed up along side everything else, (who wants a well rounded individual anyway?) it is given centre stage as the one decision maker as to whether your application is even looked at!

Here I was thinking puzzles were meant to be fun!
Anyway, rant aside, I passed the test!
