YouTube Comments

Is there actually any point in allowing users of YouTube to leave comments? I don't think I have ever read a useful one to date. Most people are just insulting each other, which is of course rather entertaining, but utterly pointless.

As a classic example, here is a comment from a workout video:

"you are the geek king and you must be gay like a fucking fag"
